The Kumihimo Knot

A gift to yourself

Keepsake: Kumihimo Knot
Contrasting satin and polished white gold frame a step-cut baguette aquamarine with subtle depth. The cathedral bezel reinforces the setting and supports the stone with clean, architectural lines. A crisp, modern design that plays with texture, light, and structure.

Giulia received the aquamarine as a graduation gift, with the freedom to turn it into whatever she wished. She worried the stone was too long and too large for a ring — afraid it might feel heavy, chunky, or uncomfortable. We suggested a thin, minimal shank to balance the visual weight, and strengthened it with a cathedral bezel so she could wear it confidently without fear of damage or loss.

The design drew inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, which hold a special place in her heart after years of travelling there. At the centre of the piece is a small reference to the kumihimo knot — a symbol of connection, respect, and unity. In Japanese culture, kumihimo represents the gathering of threads and the binding of meaningful relationships, often shared as a wish for strength and good fortune. It was a fitting tribute for a stone gifted to encourage her next steps in life.

Giulia, a young professional passionate about Japan, music, and travel, now wears the ring every day. It reminds her of the person who believed in her, the strength she carries when facing new challenges, and her ability to shape her own path — just as she shaped this ring.
