How Much Does a Custom Engagement Ring Cost?

If you’ve been holding off on writing to us because you’re worried your budget “isn’t enough” — please don’t. There’s no wrong number here. We’ve built our pricing around real budgets, not just big ones, and the first conversation with us costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

The short answer: custom engagement rings with us typically start around $5,000, $10,000, or $18,000 and up, depending on design, materials, and gemstones. None of those numbers is the “correct” one — each is simply a different way of telling the same story. What follows is how to figure out where you land, and why it’s worth finding out.

Off-the-shelf vs. custom: a different kind of story

An off-the-shelf ring is made in volume, optimized for cost and speed — you can have it today. A custom ring is made once, for one person, and takes a minimum of four weeks. Neither is right or wrong. But they say very different things about intention, and about the kind of commitment you’re making. Most jewelers, online or in a shop window, will only ever show you what’s popular. Custom is the one place where what you choose is actually about you.

Where you might land

Around $5,000. This is the simplest expression of custom — but simple has never meant lesser. For a little more than an off-the-shelf ring, you get something that has never existed before and never will again: a design built around your story, not a catalogue number. Most clients here are surprised to leave with something they didn’t expect to love this much.

Around $10,000. More room for the design and stones to carry weight — literally and figuratively. This is where a thicker band, a more elaborate setting, or a brighter gemstone starts to come into play.

$18,000 and up. For clients who want a larger natural stone, a more intricate design, or both. There’s no ceiling here — this tier grows with your ambition, not the other way round.

What actually moves the price

Three things, mostly:

  • Gold. More gold — a thicker band, a fuller setting — costs more. A quieter, thinner design costs less. Neither is better; they’re just different registers.
  • Gemstones. A large natural diamond, or a vivid ruby, sapphire, or emerald, raises the price. Lab-grown stones, or less conventional gems chosen for what they mean rather than their market status, can lower it — while still saying something entirely your own.
  • Design. This is the variable that’s hardest to price and the one that matters most. A designer’s vision and skill are difficult to judge from the outside — but they’re what separates a ring that lasts decades from one that doesn’t. If a “custom” ring looks too cheap for what it claims to be, that’s usually the corner someone cut.

Built to become someone’s heirloom

Where and how a ring is made says as much as what it’s made of. Ours are designed by Yulia and produced by Italian master artisans, fairly compensated for work that’s built to last — the kind of ring that’s still worth something to your children, not just to you.

Whatever your number is, tell us

We’ve spent years helping people navigate exactly this decision, and jewelry is not an easy sea to sail — the options are close to endless, and it’s easy to get it wrong. That’s the part we actually want to help with first. If it turns out we’re not the right fit for you, that’s a fine outcome too.

No wrong budget, no obligation. Send us a message and tell us what you’re imagining. The first conversation is simply a chance to get to know each other. We’d love to hear about your love story.

A few quick answers

Is custom more expensive than buying off the shelf? Not necessarily. Our simplest custom pieces start close to what a quality off-the-shelf ring costs — the difference is that it’s made for you, not for anyone who walks in.

What’s the minimum budget for a custom engagement ring? Around $5,000. That said, we’d rather have the conversation than have you rule yourself out on a guess.

How long does a custom engagement ring take? A minimum of four weeks, depending on design, materials and your timeline.

We'd love to hear
from you.

Whatever you have in mind — big idea, vague feeling, or something in between — that’s exactly where we start.
